Welcome to week 9 of the NFL season. I can’t believe we are past the halfway point. If you’re down money on the betting season, this is the perfect time to catch back up, as we are starting to figure out the teams a little bit more. The contenders and the pretenders are sorting themselves out. The games get more intense as every battle matters for playoff position. At the end of each game, there’s a graphic displaying the division race.
My strategy this week is going to be to guess the game flow and go from there. For example, the Colts beat the Broncos by 2 last week, but the Broncos covered +5.5. Most of the analysts predicted this to be a close game, as both teams have a great defense and not an explosive offense. That’s what happened. Therefore I’ll try to predict a few game lines and bet the line based on that information.
- Indianapolis Colts @ Pittsburgh Steelers (-1)
I am picking the team in bold – the Steelers this week. TY Hilton was ruled out mid-week, therefore really limits this Colts offense. They will have to rely heavily on Marlon Mack. The Steelers have a tough run defense led by rookie sensation Devin Bush. I see this being a close game, with not much scoring. I expect Mike Tomlin to have his guys ready for it, leading to a close win.
My Prediction: Steelers 17, Colts: 14
- Tampa Bay Buccanneers @ Seattle Seahawks (-4.5)
I had Seattle -7.5 against the Falcons last week, and they only won by 7. The game was never that close though. I heard someone on a podcast say it seemed like Pete Carroll was doing a favor to his old DC Dan Quinn, and I believe it. That won’t happen again this week. The Seahawks will take care of business this weekend at home vs Tampa Bay and continue to beat up on the bad teams that they do. I could see Jameis throwing a couple interceptions, as Wilson leads the Seahawks to a fast start. It could be 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.
My Prediction: Seattle 28, Tampa Bay 17
- Green Bay Packers (-3.5) @ Los Angeles Chargers
I haven’t seen anything from the Chargers that shows me this game will be close. In a road game for Green Bay, this will be at least 70% Packers fans, therefore making it tough for Rivers to get off to a good start. The Packers will jump out to an early lead and carry that into halftime 14-6. After that, Rivers will be forced to play catchup, in which he might make a few mistakes. With Green Bay’s top-ranked defense and their ability to run the ball, they will be able to close out a lead.
My Prediction: Green Bay 27, Los Angeles 17
Best of luck betting this week.
